The star has handed over the entirety of his £25k award cash to the MVT, which functions to protect the UK's independent concert spaces.

He was awarded the award on 16 October as his new release the album was named the outstanding release of the previous year.

The musician has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in recognition of the essential function small stages had in his initial steps.

"I personally wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was starting out," stated the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, top acts including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds supported locations that were confronting possible closure due to issues caused by floods, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, court cases and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that directly benefitted performers and audiences.

"The notion that money from shows in major spaces helps the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Fender has said.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his honor prize money to worthy causes.

Back when Pulp won the award in the year 1996 for their release the album, frontman the singer declared that the act would give their winnings to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite split her bounty among multiple organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked new equipment," the artist told a publication.

Previously, they gave their funds to the community center that supported their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year M People gave their winnings to a MS organization after a acquaintance was diagnosed the condition.

"Winning was quite enough," remarked singer the singer. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning impacted somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust shared it had saved two grassroots venues in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

One venue in the city and The Croft in that location were acquired under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
